The Community of Waterhen has a population of 152 people year-round and 100 additional people throughout the cottage season.

The community employs a full-time Public Works Employee, a full-time Community Administrative Officer, a certified part-time Water Operator, a Community Safety Officer, a part-time Recreation Director, a part-time Regional Waste Disposal Site Caretaker and a Rink Operator.
Waterhen has its own volunteer Fire Department. Approximately 12 volunteer Fire Fighters are with the department, who do ongoing training on the first and third Monday of each month under the direction of Fire Chief Greg Sanderson.
Waterhen currently owns 1 fire truck, and 1 rescue and 1 water tanker truck. They also have a Zodiac boat for water rescue.
Also housed at the Waterhen Fire Hall is the Ambulance Station for Waterhen and the surrounding areas. It is funded and run by Prairie Mountain Health (PMH).
The Ambulance Station currently has one regular employee and 2 casual employees who serve this area.
Waterhen has a 12 year old Water Treatment Plant that services the community of Waterhen and currently is piping water to Meadow Portage.
Waterhen School is located in the community of Waterhen. Our school falls under the jurisdiction of Frontier School Division. The school is a Nursery-Grade 9 facility. We have an Adult Education site located within the school yard.
Waterhen School serves the communities of Mallard, Rockridge and Waterhen. All students are bussed. At present, there are 84 students with a staff of 20.
